Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is bringing a groundbreaking electric concept drill rig for surface drilling to the Vei og Anlegg 2022 exhibition, one of Scandinavia’s largest construction trade shows, May 11–14 2022. The new concept rig demonstrates some of the advanced technologies that will be introduced on future series drill rigs to support more sustainable and energy-efficient surface drilling, particularly in urban construction applications.

Sandvik and Hindustan Zinc have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for supply of a battery-electric underground equipment fleet to be used at Sindesar Khurd Mine to help it achieve its carbon neutrality ambitions. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first quarter 2023, and it will be the first underground BEV fleet deployed in India.

Sandvik is introducing the largest-capacity battery-electric truck for underground mining. With an unrivaled 65-tonne payload capacity, the Sandvik TH665B prototype is completing factory testing in California. Finalization of the trial agreement with Barminco and AngloGold Ashanti Australia will soon see the truck trialed at the Sunrise Dam gold mine to prove its viability in a long ramp haulage application before commercial production of Sandvik TH665B is expected to commence in late 2023.

A leading mining services provider will put Sandvik’s AutoMine® Surface Drilling solution to work at a mine in Australia, with the AutoMine® system to be used with existing Leopard DI650i down-the-hole drill rigs on site. The aim is to increase efficiency and to build on the current high levels of safety. The AutoMine® system allows a single operator to control up to three rigs simultaneously from the safety of a trailer, van or remote control room.
