Sustainability

At Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions, we believe that sustainable business practices not only help foster a better future; they also translate to better productivity and efficiency.

From operations to logistics, we strive to be a leading sustainability partner for our customers and to help them achieve more sustainable business practices.

Our sustainable business strategy is based on international guidelines and principles, aligned to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and embedded in our everyday business practices.

We’ve established four overarching sustainability goals for 2030 — circularity, climate change, fair play and people — that are given the same prominence as traditional business targets and will remain a core consideration in our development of solutions for the mining and rock excavation industries.

Circularity

From our rebuild solutions that prolong equipment lifecycles to our recycling programs for steel and cemented carbide, we’ve launched a range of initiatives to support our aim of making our products and packaging at least 90 percent circular by 2030. We also aspire to halve waste from production: reducing waste or repurposing what might otherwise be waste minimizes the amount of new materials we need to create.

Climate Change

We’ve reduced our carbon emissions through reformed logistics approaches, part of our pursuit to halve our CO2 footprint by 2030. We also capture waste heat released in production processes and redistribute it to warm our facilities. We engineer energy-efficient equipment to help our customers reduce their carbon footprints. Our battery-electric mining equipment produces less heat and zero exhaust emissions, which significantly reduces a mine’s CO2 footprint.

Fair Play

Our compliance system is fully embedded in all business operations. Internal business controls alert for any risks in relation to possible poor business practices, particularly when operating in countries where bribery and corruption are an issue. We’re also committed to developing a diverse and inclusive workforce where at least a third of managers are women.
