Roadheaders for tunneling

Sandvik's MT series of roadheaders offers the best cutting performance in a wide range of rock formations. Equipped with geometrically optimized transverse cutter heads, these flexible machines can be used for a wide range of applications. They can also be used for rehabilitation of existing tunnels, and excavation of underground caverns.

Sandvik roadheaders let you focus on the essential: breaking through to the other side with minimum fuss. They are designed to excavate continuously without using explosives causing harmful vibrations.

Powered electro-hydraulically, the MT series emits no fumes and no vibrations, which makes them suitable for underground construction projects in urban areas. Sandvik roadheaders are equipped with advanced profile control, automatic sequence control systems and online data processing possibilities.

Sandvik’s MT series roadheaders with their geometrically optimized, transverse cutter heads offer superior cutting performance in a wide range of applications referring to different rock types and rock formations – from mineral / ore production of soft and little abrasive saline and industrial minerals to tunnel and underground cavern excavations in mechanical cutting challenging rock/rock mass conditions consisting of strong and significantly abrasive rock types like sandstone, schist and gneiss.

Sandvik MT520 Roadheader for Tunneling

Sandvik MT521 roadheader, originally designed for cutting large cross sections in tunneling, is as efficient for use in production of soft industrial minerals like salt, potash and chalk. Its modular design offers more flexibility than standard roadheaders and works in most rock conditions up to 100 MPa compressive strength.
