Sandvik wins 2022 Innovation Award for AutoMine® in Mongolia

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions has received an Innovation Award for the best supplier of automation technology at the Oyu Tolgoi Supplier of the Year 2022 award ceremony. The company earned the award for the innovative implementation of its AutoMine® system at Oyu Tolgoi gold and copper mine, marking the first underground autonomous technology in mining operations in Mongolia.

Oyu Tolgoi installed and commissioned Sandvik’s AutoMine® Lite system within its underground production operations earlier this year. AutoMine® underground for loading and hauling is an automation system for autonomous and tele-remote operation of a wide range of Sandvik loaders and trucks. The scalable solution can provide tele-remote to fully autonomous operation for a single or multiple machines, including full fleet automation with automatic mission and traffic control capability.

“We are honored to have won this award for our AutoMine® system, which demonstrates Oyu Tolgoi’s commitment to using safer and innovative technology in its operations,” said Brad Clarke, Territory Manager and Managing Director, Sandvik Mongolia, Sales Area Southeast Asia at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.

The Oyu Tolgoi awards honor the best suppliers of products and services working in the Mongolian mining sector. The ceremony took place at the Supplier Expo 2022, celebrating 100 years of mining in Mongolia, and recognized companies for their excellence in various categories.

“Our commitment to innovation is always customer focused,” said David Hallett, Vice President Automation, Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. “This award affirms our investment in more advanced, reliable and intelligent solutions for autonomous underground mining operations. This achievement is a result of a collaborative partnership between Oyu Tolgoi and Sandvik.”

“Together with the customer, we have put a lot of effort into developing our in-country automation competence,” said Jan-Douwe Wansink, Business Line Manager Automation, Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. “This award is a testament to the work our local team has put into making AutoMine® a success at Oyu Tolgoi, and we’re looking forward to continuing this journey.”
