Sandvik’s Remote Monitoring Service boosts uptime through analytics

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is continuing the global rollout of its Remote Monitoring Service, a robust solution that analyzes underground mining equipment data to identify abnormalities and develop predictive solutions to increase uptime and reduce operating costs.

After successful customer launches in Canada, the United States and Australia this year, Sandvik introduced Remote Monitoring Service at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2021 in Las Vegas. The powerful solution translates the vast amounts of monitoring and status data acquired from underground mining equipment into actionable recommendations for the continuous improvement of mining operations. Remote Monitoring Service delivers value for both large and small operations and for all types of underground production equipment, with plans to add surface mining equipment in the near future.

The advanced service combines access to global, comprehensive reference data with Sandvik’s digital expertise and in-depth analytics capabilities, making the service, unique, reliable and also sustainable. Remote Monitoring Service helps customers to achieve larger tonnage output with fewer emissions while extending the life of the equipment and its components.

“Remote Monitoring Service provides a high return on investment with a short lead time and low risks,” said Ricus Terblanche, Business Line Manager with Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.

Remote Monitoring Service creates value for equipment owners through Sandvik’s intricate knowledge and unique experience as the equipment manufacturer. Sandvik turns this unmatched knowledge of its equipment and features into tangible actions to identify failures before they occur. Sandvik’s holistic approach includes continuous feedback. Findings from servicing and insights through data are not only used by the hubs monitoring the data from the mining production equipment in various regions, but also used to make further machine design improvements. This communication and knowledge helps local service teams better understand a specific customer and their conditions on the ground while also providing the back-office insight to appoint the right expertise.

Remote Monitoring Service benefits:

  • Increased efficiency through continuous, round-the-clock analysis of real-time data
  • Higher machine utilization reduces cost per hour
  • Lower emissions through insights to fuel consumption and optimized component life (less scrap metal)
  • Improved operator safety through alerts on speeding, brake violations, freewheeling in neutral, etc., as well as access to expertise and training
  • Improved maintenance planning and less downtime
