Sandvik further invests in Centre of Excellence in Ballygawley whilst also increasing sustainability

As part of Sandvik’s commitment to minimize the environmental impact and reduce our total waste, Sandvik Mobile Crushers and Screens have recently invested in a new shot blasting facility at our production facility in Ballygawley, Northern Ireland.

This follows the £1.6 million investment of a new powder coating facility only a couple of years ago. The ongoing investment to our world class Centre of Excellence in Ballygawley shows Sandvik’s commitment to the development of the Mobile Crushing and Screening business unit and to improved product quality for our customers.

The Sandvik factory located in Ballygawley, Northern Ireland, is known as one of the world’s premier manufacturing facilities for mobile crushers and screens. This has enabled customers throughout the world to benefit from our materials’ and production expertise.

Reduction of 96% less hazardous landfill waste

The new shot blasting facility will improve and increase our shot blasting capacity on site whilst also reducing the amount of landfill wasteThe new shot blasting facility, which was installed and operational at the end of November, will improve and increase our shot blasting capacity on site whilst also reducing the amount of landfill waste. The previous shot blast system used a shot material called ‘JBlast’ which could only be used once. This hazardous waste was then collected and sent to landfill. The new technology eliminates the consumption of copper ore and replaces it with a chilled iron material. This material can be recycled up to 10 times, thereby reducing our overall landfill waste by an incredible 96%.

Improved product quality

In addition to improving sustainability, the recent investment will also provide benefits for our customers. As the system is now self-contained under one roof, there are no quality imperfections caused by parts being exposed to the elements.

As well as producing improved quality for customers, the new blasting facilities will also make a substantial improved working environment for our employees.
